    Description

From a Tucson Country Club estate is this antique 19th Century Qing Chinese export Rose Medallion teapot. The attractive vessal has well rendered scenes with Mandarin figures and a desired lack of any country of origin marking as proper for an earlier example. Those who know will recognize the form and its useful presence in any grouping of these wares. Condition is quite good and pretty close to as crafted with a nice aura of time to the clean surfaces. There are the usual few very tiny areas where the decorator simply skipped painting a small detail or completely filled in a color. That said, there are very few places where any overglaze paint is actually missing and only light wear to the gold. Both body and lid show no chips or any subsequent restorations. The pouring spout and handle lugs are free from any damage. There is a glazed over line at the rim edge of the lid, obviously there from the time of biscuit firing and before the final glaze firing, so strictly as made and mentioned here simply for absolute accuracy. The two original brass swing handles are still present,  their missing rattan wrapping (a common thing) about the only "detraction". The bottom of the foot shows a small bit of kiln grit from resting on and removal from the kiln floor, diagnostic and normal for an earlier example. I'm nitpicking for the obsessive here, and a look at the pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition - a well preserved pre 1890 Rose Medallion  teapot that will enhance any setting it joins.  Size is about 6 in. vertical to the top of the lid (not including the brass swing handles) and 7 1/8 in. horizontal including the spout. I'm not sure what else to say so there you are. NOTE: I'm doing this as a final sale auction like the old days, so feel free to ask any questions and bid accordingly.
