    Chinese export silver
    hand raised
    shell & floral
    sugar bowl & cover.
    From the Canton work shop of
    Kecheong.
    Believed to have been originally owned by
    a Salem Massachusetts
    China trade merchant
    Captain Peele.
    The export silver bowl and cover
    hand made,
    the finish chasing of the highest order.
    The layered petal and
    flower head crown finial
    not cast but
    hand made.
    Itself a work of
    art.
    A nearly identical design
    from contemporary,
    Wongshing,
    illustrated page 180
    Dr. Crosby Forbes's
    China trade text.
    Period engraved
    Gothic initials,
    H(?) F. P.
    for Captain Peele.
    The c1840 Captain Peele Chinese silver covered sugar bowl 9 inches across
    handles 5 tall and weighs 22 1/2 standard ounces.
    Hallmarked as shown, the identical hallmark in Forbes's text.
